We’re going for “baroque”! Special Appearance.

On Saturday, February 21, we’re excited to be performing “The Majesty of Musick – Music for Royalty & Saints” – at the Pacific Baroque Festival (8:00 p.m., Alix Goolden Performance Hall.)

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE: Handel’s exquisite ode celebrates St. Cecilia, patron saint of music, through stunning arias for soprano and for tenor, along with rousing choruses with trumpets and drums, all set to text by John Dryden, reflect the theme of the universal harmony that pervades all of creation. If the epithet grand, had been here intended to express sublimity and dignity, it might have been used with the utmost propriety; for I can recollect no movement that is more lofty and noble than this.” (Charles Burney)

YOU’LL HEAR: Coronation anthem: ‘Zadok the Priest’ HWV 258 Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 1 HWV 319 Concerto for organ, 2 oboes and strings in F Major HWV 292 “An Ode for St Cecilia’s Day” HWV 76

FELLOW ARTISTS: Kathleen Brett – soprano; Benjamin Butterfield – tenor; Michael Jarvis – organ; Pacific Baroque Orchestra; St. Christopher’s Singers

The Victoria Children's Choir is a Member of Choral Canada and the BC Choral Federation.

We would like to acknowledge that we gather on the unceded, ancestral lands of the Lekwungen speaking peoples – the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, who have stewarded these lands and waterways since time immemorial, and whose connection to the land continues to this day. We are grateful to live, learn, raise our families, and make music on these beautiful lands. We would also like to acknowledge our Métis, Inuit and urban Indigenous partners and friends who call these lands their home.
